In 2009, a group of students and postgraduates of St. Petersburg State University decided to start weekly scientific and educational seminars entitled "Interdisciplinary Communication". The aim of the seminars was to acquaint the participants with the terminology, methodology and subject areas of various branches of science. Successful scientists - experts in their field, were involved in seminars.
The first stage was a study of the intellectual foundations on the basis of which interdisciplinary specialists should be “cultivated” - experts in solving difficult formalizable tasks. During the first year of the workshop participants have mastered general methodological scheme of “entry” in the subject areas of problem fields of basic disciplines. Moreover, the interest of the seminars "Interdisciplinary communication" began to involve issues of public importance.
After a year there was an understanding that the covered audience with the developed methodology, operation mode and study of some problem areas allows starting the process of establishing HR Institute.
So “Student interdisciplinary seminars” appeared, as a form of intellectual leisure. Seminars met the needs of students in an intellectual dialogue and introduced them into the perspective of different branches of science and life, guiding intellectual resources of young people to contemporary issues. Seminars were organized on interdisciplinary topics, specialized professionals and experts from related fields were invited. Specialists introduced into perspective, experts offered their vision of the issue. Field of viewpoints gave rise to discussion.
Then, a new format was launched - offsite methodological school "Interdisciplinary synthesis”. There a complete immersion of participants in the interdisciplinary fields of research took place. Usually the school was held for three days.
The project has been developing, and new members began to join: Professors of St. Petersburg State University, graduate students and young teachers from other regions of Russia. The project is now being replicated in the Siberian Federal University, Perm State National Research University, Ural Federal University.
The project team aims to replicate in other federal universities in Russia. In addition, work on cooperation with several universities in Germany has begun.

Reasons for this program have been developed in the framework of interdisciplinary educational projects. The project team hopes to launch a number of other online education programs in 2015.
The organizers distinguish three main indicators of project success:
The project "Student interdisciplinary seminars" is supported by the Agency for Strategic Initiatives, the interaction with which, according to the opinion of the authors of the project, is being built very effectively. Thanks to a multi-stage procedure for the selection of projects by the Agency the team already at the stage of selection was able to significantly improve and expand the project. Expert assistance provided by the Agency was important for the development of the project. It helped the project to find new ways of development
